Melksham Town Centre CCTV Infrastructure Now Fully Operational
Melksham Town Council is pleased to announce that the new and improved Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) infrastructure for the town centre is now fully operational.
The surveillance system has been provided as a proactive measure to create a safer environment for both residents and visitors, addressing safety concerns and bolstering a sense of security within the community.
The main aims of the scheme are to enhance confidence in the safety of our town, deter anti-social behaviour and vandalism and assist in the identification of offenders.
The previous CCTV coverage consisted of six cameras and was centred mainly on the Market Place. However, the new system includes a total of 73 cameras which have been strategically installed to provide comprehensive coverage of key areas throughout the town centre.
Areas covered now also include King George V Playing Fields, Bath Road, Lowbourne, Bank Street, Church Street, Church Walk, Strattons Walk and King Street.
Requests for footage may only be submitted by the police or other statutory or legal authorities in line with current Data Protection laws.
