Who are Age UK Wiltshire?
Age UK Wiltshire is an independent, local charity providing support and services to older people living in Wiltshire and Swindon, something they’ve been doing for over 70 years. They want everyone to be able to love later life.
They do this by inspiring, supporting and enabling older people, helping them stay safe, make informed choices and be independent yet connected.
They promote the wellbeing of all older people and work to make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. They recognise that every person is an individual with different needs, preferences and abilities. They aim to reflect this diversity in everything they do including making their services inclusive and accessible to older people from all sections of the community and by attracting and retaining a diverse workforce of both staff and volunteers.
They choose to be a partner of the national charity, Age UK, however they are responsible for their own funding and set their own priorities. Their charity is overseen by a board of trustees who themselves are volunteers from the local community, bringing their career and life experiences to Age UK Wiltshire. Their services are provided by a small team of paid employees who are supported by around 250 wonderful volunteers, without whom they would be unable to deliver much of what they do.
Volunteering Opportunity- Telephone Befriending with Age UK Wiltshire
How does telephone befriending work?
Age UK Wiltshire say: "We match over 65s who are experiencing loneliness and isolation, spend most of their time at home alone or who have caring responsibilities that mean they can't get out, with a friendly volunteer for a weekly chat.
Our service has helped create many new friendships, and many people tell us their calls are the highlight of their week. Our telephone volunteers provide this low-key social telephone support service to older people.
Find out more and apply to be a telephone befriending volunteer via our website here, or by emailing enquiries@ageukwiltshire.org.uk."
