Melksham Town Council to Host Special Poppy Art Installation for VE Day 2025
The Melksham community is joining forces to create a heartfelt poppy art installation in front of the Town Hall to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. This striking display, planned for VE Day 2025, will feature hand-knitted and crocheted poppies, symbolising remembrance and unity.
Call for Donations and Volunteers
To bring this meaningful project to life, organisers are seeking donations of black and red wool. Additionally, anyone with knitting or crocheting skills is encouraged to volunteer and contribute to this community-led initiative.
Monthly Coffee Mornings
From January to April 2025, the Council will host Coffee & Poppy Mornings once a month. These events will provide an opportunity for volunteers to come together, work on knitting poppies, and enjoy a warm drink in a friendly setting. It’s a chance for everyone to contribute while building connections within the community.
How You Can Get Involved
Whether you’d like to donate wool, volunteer as a knitter or crocheter, or join one of the Coffee & Poppy Mornings, there are many ways to help make this project a success.
Celebrating VE Day 2025
The completed poppy art installation will be unveiled in May 2025, as part of Melksham’s VE Day commemorations. This display will not only pay tribute to those who served during World War II but will also highlight the creativity and unity of the Melksham community.
Let’s come together to remember, honour, and celebrate this significant milestone in history.
